The Cascades

We flew above these mountains grand and high,
saw Mt. Rainier with snow-capped peaks. The sky,
enriched with awe-inspiring standing rock
and earth, snapped me to fresh attention: Lock

your eyes on this, for you may never see
it ‘ere again.
I hope this wildness, free,
gigantic, natural, will never burn.
I see its majesty at every turn.
