The back and forth banter of denied emotions
Glimpses of innocence amidst true passion
A raw ache for true love to quench the thirst
But then the cutting words I’ll hear no more.
Tears suddenly stream like rivers raging in a storm
Memories brought on from moments before
These words now ring in my own ears, the same voice
Staring at the words, running my fingers over them
The same way we ran our fingers over each other
Tracing the outline of the words the way I traced the shape of his body
But now feeling the cold paper and ink beneath them
Never to hear those words again from his lips, “see how good we are together”.
