One is six, the other three years old.
It’s been a busy day and they are tired,
but not tired enough to give in.
Now, there is a feeling of renewed energy
as they realise it’s growing dark.
There is a moon
and a few stars have appeared.
Christmas lights are beginning to twinkle.
It is not Christmas yet.
Not for weeks.
It’s only the garden centre
in advertising mode
dressing itself up
showing off its new seasonal wares.
The two boys
don’t care.
For them,
now,
in the dark,
watching the lights,
Christmas has begun.

HI, Pat. I thoroughly enjoyed your poem,”As darkness falls.” I reminds me of the delightful innocence of the days gone by when my own daughers were young. Thanks for sharing! Bette

That’s a pleasure. They were a delight to take out although by the time I dropped them off back home, I was dropping too!

Thank you Tim. Glad you liked it. Very free and unorthodox for me. :-)

Really well written. I have children similarly aged … these retailers make it so hard to keep their minds off Christmas. Hehe
Thanks for sharing.

Yes and I have a thing about Christmas being in December. When I picked the bigger one up from school, he was so excited and by the time I took them home, I was quite exhausted. Thank you for your kind comment. Glad you liked it.
