20 Lines A Day - Poem about “December”
December
Oh December
You’re such a contradiction
Darkness falls early
on cold dreary days
Gloomy
Gray
Colorless
Depressing
And then
like magic
it begins
Slowly color appears
in the form of twinkling lights
frosted windows
glowing candles
up and down the street
Color speckled all around
like paint on the painters pallet
Crisp nights
the air is seasoned
with the smell of burning wood
And with children
adults
even those who don’t like it
silently wish for a December snow fall
A beautiful white blanket
to cover the ground
and rooftops
And then
as quickly as it appears
and as December comes to an end
the colors begin to fade
and disappear
into the cold
dreary days
of winter
