On the Platform

“Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells…”

On the platform,

The CTA platform

“Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells…”

And it was the north/south line

And it was the Chicago Avenue Station

“Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells…”

And as she talked,

All listened,

“Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells…”

And as she sang,

A few drunks laughed,

“Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells…”

(and everyone pretended

she wasn’t even there)

“Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells…”

And with the rolling of the trains

“Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells…”

All sounds turn

into a dull rumble

Weekly Photo Challenge: Everyday

Originally posted on Grandmother Musings:

This photo is entitled, “Traffic”.  Traffic is what most of us encounter on a daily basis regardless if we live in Bangkok or Chicago.  A morning commute filled with the smell of exhaust, the blare of a train whistle, and the squeaky brakes of a mass transit bus awakens us faster than a morning cup of coffee. This is “everyday” stuff.

Other Side Of Distance 6

Duty tells departure

when it may commence.

And when one

looks down the rails

to an unseen end

it is possible

the trick of the eye

is no illusion

and somewhere

past perspective

the parallel will join

and the train which runs along this track

will become another dot

or maybe dash

or both

en route to this joining

as the wheels

beat out messages in Morse

about waiting.
